What's carsharing? Why carshare?
Carsharing means having a car when you need one, without the hassle and expense of owning your own. If you don't need a car every day for work, carsharing can be a great way to have a reliable part-time car and save thousands of dollars a year.
People who carshare instead of owning their own vehicle also tend to drive less, enjoying other ways of getting around such as walking, bicycling, ridesharing and busing. This can lead to less traffic and pollution, and a healthier lifestyle.
You can set up a do-it-yourself carshare, or join local nonprofit Ithaca Carshare. Members of Ithaca Carshare can reserve and use any of their cars-and a truck-located around town, paying by the hour and mile. As more people join and use Ithaca Carshare cars, more cars can be added to new locations, extending the carshare option to more people.
